Medical Malpractice Wrongful Death; Failure to diagnose Hypertensive Emergency; $350,000 Settlement

I recently settled a Louisiana wrongful death caused by the medical malpractice of a family practitioner for $350,000. The decedent, a 35-year-old African American male, visited his local practitioner on eight separate occasions within a six month period, each time complaining of eye pain and headaches. Moreover, on each occasion, the decedent's blood pressure was measured well in excess of normal levels, reaching as high as 250/150 on several occasions. The decedent was unmarried, and had no children, which under Louisiana law, precluded any recovery beyond that for pain, suffering and emotional distress.
