Chris Davis

When Chris was around 12 years of age, a major event occurred that ultimately determined Chris’s career path. Chris’s father, an underground coalminer, suffered a significant on-the-job injury. He recalls the remainder of his childhood fighting the Coal Company with the family’s attorney (Don M. Stacy). He was inspired by (Mr. Stacy’s) ability resolve a situation that his father could not, Chris recalls, “He could fix the problems that my family didn’t understand, most importantly, he could bring peace to my Dad’s face. I wanted to help folks just like this man.” It was then Chris decided to attend law school.

Drawing on his own experiences, Chris is passionate about representing people that are injured as the result of another person’s carelessness. Every cases has issues that require an attorney’s help to resolve, this is what Chris finds most rewarding about his work. As an lawyer, he believes help and resolution are what clients most need and seek out in an attorney.

John D. (Jody) Wooton, Jr.

Jody’s intrigue with the legal system began about the time he was becoming a teenager. He vividly recalls observing his father and uncle working to establish personal relationships with each client at the family’s law firm. Witnessing those personal connections made Jody want to pursue a law degree and follow in the family business.

After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee, he graduated in 2007 with a J.D. and M.B.A. from West Virginia University. It was one summer, in particular, that Jody knew he was on the right career path. He spent those three months working in the Beckley office with his father and Chris Davis, who once acted as mentor but now is a colleague, absorbing as much knowledge about the law field as he could.

Now an established attorney himself, Jody is passionate about creating and maintaining the personal relationships his family’s firm has been offering for years. He receives great reward from being in court every day and problem solving issues in criminal cases, which is the area of law he most represents clients. These cases range from murders, burglaries, robberies, assaults and DUIs — from the local to national level. What sets the WWDHE law firm apart from others is that its attorneys are also capable of handling federal criminal casework.

Jody believes that offering comfort and guidance to clients is another important aspect of building relationships. Attorneys should also provide assurance to clients that similar cases have occurred and those clients involved have pushed through to the other end.

Jody’s knowledge of law is reinforced by his numerous distinctions, memberships and affiliations. Some of which include:

  • ACS Chemical Society
  • WV Bar Association
  • Mountain State Bar Association
  • American Bar Association
  • Federal CJA Panel (Southern District of West Virginia)
  • WV Association of Justice
  • National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
  • National Advocacy for DUI Defense
