Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice is an area within personal injury law that covers a situation in which a person suffers injury or death because a physician or other health care provider has deviated from accepted standards of proper medical care.

Cancer Cases

Cervical cancer can have profound effects on women, as well as their families and loved ones. The reality is that invasive cervical cancer in this county is nearly 100 percent preventable through routine gynecological exams and pap smears. Unfortunately 5,000 women die of cervical cancer each year needlessly due to improper medical care.

Birth Injuries

Increasingly, lawyers are called upon by parents of seriously disabled infants or children to determine whether such injuries occurred at or around the time of birth and were avoidable. Any lawyer, who casually begins such an undertaking, seriously underestimates the enormity of the challenge posed by such cases. Perinatal brain or other vital organ dysfunction cases can arise out of mismanagement of the pre-birth course, the post-natal course or a combination of both.Being the parents of a child who has suffered a possible birth injury is devestating. The parents are often torn when faced with a disease like cerebral palsy and the possibility that medical misconduct may have occurred. Birth injury cases can be difficult lawsuits, involving complicated issues of fault and determination of proper medical standards.

Wrongful Death

Being a family member of someone who has needlessly died is devastating. When a person is killed due to another’s negligence or wrongful conduct, the surviving family members may have grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit. The concept of a life lost as a result of medical malpractice or any other wrongful act forms the basis of damage recovery for the victim’s family.

Our Mission

In order to best help our clients, our firm employs both attorneys and medical professionals. We combine compassion with legal and medical knowledge to find the answers and help you need.

A former navy hospital corpsman and respiratory therapist, Jerry has devoted his entire career to representing people injured by medical negligence. After working in hospitals and seeing patients suffer needless injury, he felt an intense drive to make a difference in the medical field.

He has been recognized as one of the top 100 lawyers in Pennsylvania by The American Trial Lawyers Association and, based upon the independent research of Washington Law & Politics, recognized as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in the field of medical malpractice. Meyers has been responsible for investing in a number of measures that differentiate Meyers Evans & Associates from many other law firms, such as establishing one of the most extensive medical libraries privately owned by a law firm. The library contains not only the leading current authoritative medical texts and clinics but prior editions of such texts so that the standard of practice at the time the malpractice occurred can be established.

Representation of individuals victimized by defective medical products, motor vehicle negligence and food-borne illnesses are just a few of our team’s other areas of practice. Our lawyers also have a wealth of experience litigating numerous birth injury, cerebral palsy, brain damage and wrongful death cases.

On-Staff Medical Practitioners

One of the most important aspects of our firm’s operation is the initial client contact and screening of all potential injury cases. It is common that most people when faced with investigating a catastrophic medical malpractice or wrongful death claim end up talking to secretaries or paralegals that really do not possess medical knowledge or insights; hence they typically do not know what questions to ask.

At the law offices of Meyers Evans & Associates, it is our medical staff that leads the way in determining where the possible medical negligence occurred.

Each potential client speaks to one of our on-staff nurses, all of whom have had critical care experience, are well-educated; all are still working as nurses in addition to working here part-time so as to maintain their acuity with reference to current standards of practice.

The firm’s attorneys, in-house medical staff, paralegals and support personnel understand the seriousness of each and every potential claim we review. Our attorneys take every case seriously and on an individual basis, carefully considering the unique circumstances of each case.

The Meyers Medical Library

At Meyers Evans & Associates, we believe one of our firm’s most valuable resources is our extensive medical library. We maintain our medical library because it is an essential tool for our attorneys, medical staff and legal support staff to establish the medical standard of practice current to the time the care was provided.
